Ashley is currently working on her Debut CD that showcases her very own jazz
piano trio and her stylings in the straight- ahead jazz realm, playing
all her favorite jazz classics. Ashley also has a second record
already in the mix, that showcases her as a producer, writer, composer,
pianist and vocalist. This record is full of her beautiful
orignal music that is influenced by folk, pop, and neo-soul and will
have a different flavor than her traditional jazz trio record.
Born and raised on the west coast of Canada, Ashley Wey began studying
traditional music and fundamental techniques at the age of five years
old, before moving on to Jazz, Latin and Funk ten years later. By the
time she was fifteen, she was performing professionally, and composing
and arranging music for bands of all sizes.
In 2000, Ashley moved to Toronto and worked
in and around the city for 7 years as a free-lance musician and
composer/arranger playing music ranging in styles from Jazz, Pop,
R&B, Neo-Soul, to live Electronic music and live Hip-Hip. During
this time she had the opportunity to tour with Eva Avila – 2006
Canadian Idol, Perform several times with The Parachute Club, Record on
both of Joni Nehrita ‘s albums as well as the Babes in Jazzland album,
Warriors for Peace, and several other bands.
Ashley has studied with, and
absorbed the piano
stylings of George Cables, Hilario Duran and Don Thompson. She attended
Humber College, where she graduated with a Diploma of Music with
Honours (Performance), and later received a Bachelor of Music ( Jazz
Studies) degree. She
was awarded the Duke Ellington Memorial Award for arranging from Humber
College, and the prestigious Fraser MacPherson Music scholarship when
she was 17 years old. She has preformed in numerous Jazz Festivals, and
has also played piano in jazz trios and quartets onboard Seabourne,
Celebrity, Carnival, Holland America and P&O Australia Cruiselines.
